Recycling end-of-life fashion textiles to create colorful soft products.

This project was shortlisted to be part of the 30 Circoax Program. A Circular Fashion booster innovation program organized by the European Union. Thus it received EU funds and awards.

The primary issue with fast fashion lies in the rapid pace at which consumers purchase new clothing and dispose of old ones. In fact, if we were to stack all the discarded clothes in the United States alone, it would create a tower 37 times taller than the Empire State Building. As a result, I have developed a composite material using such discarded clothes. The challenge of this project was determining the types of clothing to be utilized in the creation of this material. While 100% cotton clothes have been successfully recycled, there is no practical solution for those containing a mix of polyester, nylon, and/or elastane.

This material was introduced to the market in 2021, and since then, I have been focusing on designing various products and developing color variations in line with the trends specific to our target market using the dry dyeing technique. This means, no pigments or additives, just selecting and mixing the clothing fibres.
